Magical Number 5...

Wow, Evan is now 5-years-old!! July 22 was the big day. He was so excited for this day and had talked about it and counted down to it for the last few months. I think there are a few reasons why my kids are so excited to finally turn 5.

1) That is the magic age when they finally are allowed to have gum

2) They get to have their first birthday party with friends

3) Who knows why else, it's just a magical age for some reason

Evan is such a happy kid. It's hard to notice sometimes as a parent when all that happiness comes with ALOT of energy that frankly just gets me tired and frustrated sometimes. Believe me he has his moments like the rest of us, but he always has a smile for you. He loves to say hi to people and is very proud when they give him a smile back. He loves being a goof and getting other people to laugh with him. He has a very curious mind and ALOOOOOOOT of questions he needs to ask. He also has a very sensitive side and loves to give hugs and just cuddle up to me when I'm feeding Miles or on those rare occasions when I'm just sitting on the couch. He brings much happiness, frustration, smiles, tears, love and joy to our family. We love you, Evan, for all of it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

We left for a trip to Arizona on his birthday so we invited G-ma and G-pa over for his birthay celebration the night before (It just so happened we needed a babysitter for that night - Thanks Mom and Dad). Evan chose pepperoni bread for dinner and fruit pizza for dessert. We also opened his presents that night.

G-ma and G-pa got him a two-wheeler scooter which he has been asking for since his scooter broke a couple months ago. He also got his first pair of flip flops, a Batman toy, some new pajamas, and a jacket (also from G-ma and G-pa). The next morning he got his first pack of gum. (I love wathing him chew it. He looks so cute.)

Since we were going to be in Arizona on his birthday, we had hs friend birthday party the Friday after we got back (July 31). We had a "Balloon Blast". Everything was centered around balloons. (If I had actually planned the party before I sent out the invitations those would have been all about balloons too and soooo much cuter. I almost wanted to send them out all over again after I decided to do the Balloon Blast. Oh well)

When they first got there while we were waiting for others to arrive they drew a face on a balloon and attached it to feet to make a balloon person. This they took home as their party favor.

We played a bunch of games with balloons.

They had to keep their balloon in the air however they could and then do it using only their head and feet (they thought this one was hard)

They ran around with balloons tied to their feet trying to stomp on others' balloons. They also played Duck, Duck, Goose with balloons and Red Light Green Light with balloons.

I tried to get him to let me make a balloon shaped cake to go with the whole theme, but he wouldn't have it. He wanted Batman.

Here's the whole group of them eating their cake. It was a low-key party which was nice for me and it was a plus that the kids had fun. It's great when they are so easy to please just playing with balloons.
