Peek-a-boo and ruffles and flowers, oh my...

A couple months ago when I was on a sewing kick I got some material to make a car seat tent/canopy for this little girl (I can't wait until I can actually call her by name).  It has taken me this long to find the time and energy to get started on it.  I finished it this week and here it is...

(the inner fabric - yikes, looks like now I need to make some car seat strap covers to match - not lovin' the blue camouflage ones I made for Miles)
I made a tent for Miles by just making it up myself and going at it.  It worked out just fine, but this time I searched online to see if I could find an actual tutorial with measurements already figured out for me.  I'm glad I looked because I found one with an added element I liked.  The peek-a-boo window.  (found on this blog - I added my own ruffles and embellishments.)  I liked the fact I can look in without disturbing a sleeping baby and she will get some extra airflow in there, as well.
I really like it and I think it's cute, but there are some things I would do differently.  I adore the fabric but I might chose one next time that isn't so busy.  Or maybe just make sure the flap is a little less busy or use a solid color.  I would have used the fabric I used for the ruffles on the whole flap, but I ran out of it and so had to kind of piece together different fabrics to get a piece large enough.  I'm still debating whether or not to take off the flap and start over with a solid color, maybe one that matches the flower embellishments.  But I don't know if I'm that ambitious.

Compared to the one I made for Miles, I'm glad I did the window and added the ruffles around the bottom and the flowers to the straps, but it took me A LOT longer.  Miles' took me about an hour.  On this one, I stopped keeping track after 5 hours.  (Ruffles are annoying and take way too long - too bad they're so darn cute.)  Oh how great will be the day I ever get a craft room all to myself and don't have to set up and clean up after every crafting session.
So...

Am I glad I made it and was it totally worth it?.....Absolutely!
Would I do it again?.....Only if you paid me - maybe :)

4th of July city parade...

Go somewher Fun Friday...

Fridays that we don't already have something going on is our day to go and do something fun - i.e. tours, water splash pads, etc.  Last Friday I took the kids to the Conference Center for a tour.  The younger ones had never been inside so they were pretty excited to get to see what the big deal was.  Evan was amazed at the number of seats - 21,000.

Since we were on a tour we got to go to the top and look around.  A great view of the temple.

Then we went over to Misti's office and she showed us around the Church Office Building.

How many...

How many people does it take to put a maternity pillow pillowcase back on the pillow?

Answer:  3

I took the pillowcase off my maternity pillow so I could wash it.  I don't do it very often because it is a P-A-I-N to put back on.  I think I need to sew a different one that will slide on better.  Because this one just makes me not want to wash it EVER and that is just gross.

We have a weekly schedule to give us something to do every day when we don't already have a lot going on.  Mondays are "Make Something Monday".  I'll figure out a craft for us to do and then we'll make it.  Last year I found this idea on a blog and thought it would be perfect for the 4th of July.  The kids had fun - mostly.  Miles hates his hands dirty so he screamed when I tried to get his hands in the paint.

We made flags first - we only got the blue done on Miles' then he wanted nothing else to do with the paint on his hands.
Then they just went at it and had fun.
